  • handed in our postage stamps
  • read in our text book - do you know what colonists are?
  • worked in our journals on primary & secondary source images
  • find out about your name: Who named you? Why? What does your name mean?

Today in MATH we:

  • Reviewed the homework from yesterday
  • talked about the difference between estimate/approximation & exact
  • talked about different calculation methods
  • HOMEWORK - mp7 (math power 7) page 5 #1-22 - you have detailed instructions on how to complete these questions in your notes, if you used your time wisely in class your should be finished or close to it....this is DUE ON FRIDAY September 1, 2006

Today in SCIENCE we:

  • talked about lab safety & WHMIS - this was the section you read last night
  • worked on our Structures & Forces title pages DUE FRIDAY September 1, 2006
  • For your title page you should hand in a "plan" stapled to the back of a Published title page.

  • HOMEWORK: Activity 2 & 3 with the questions on page 2, Page 3 (warm up) Questions #1-5

Today in SCIENCE we:

  • looked at our textbook tool boxes
  • worked on our structures and forces title pages - DUE FRIDAY September 1, 2006, title page plan (first draft) and title page (final draft)
  • Read toolbox #1 about safety tonight

  • finished our language arts comprehension exam
  • got 3 textbooks: MathPower7, Science in Action 7, Voices and Visons: a story of Canada - You are responsible for these textbooks, write the numbers down, keep track of and take care of them!

Today in HUMANITIES we:

  • went over the features of our textbook
  • did a Venn diagramm about family and country - SENSE of BELONGING
  • Active Citizenship
  • Find a photograph of a memorable moment in your life for WEDNESDAY
  • Find ONE example of an active citizen in your community DUE: Tuesday
  • Choose one event on timeline. Research & summarize it
  • Brainstorm Postage Stamp!!

Today in MATH we:

  • did word problems, wrote out some helpful steps for solving them
  • Don't forget to show your work
  • you have a "Problem of the week" to work on

Today in SCIENCE we:

  • talked about title pages
  • DUE: Tuesday August 29, 2006 the "plan" for your title page (spelling & neatness count)

  • handed in what we had written

  • find one interesting piece of writing (literature) to share

Today in Math we:

  • went over the homework
  • did a division booklet: DUE Friday August 25, 2006

Today in Science we:

  • talked about the scientific process
  • handed in ourpublished paragraph (and first draft) about what the scientific process is to us
  • Due for Friday: Write up a question, hypothesis, and methods for the pancake experiement

  • Did a worksheet called Connecting Numbers due Thursday August 24, 2006
  • updated our math table of contents

Today in SCIENCE we:

  • Talked about our safety questions (Great Work!)
  • Introduced the idea of "scientific process" (remember Myth Busters)
  • Due on Thursday August 24, 2006: one paragraph on what you think the scientific process is, your paragraph should be edited, and you will submit a first draft and a published draft
